Knitting in the New Year

There's a warm fire glowing in the fireplace, Pandora's playing quietly in the background.....
my little hooligans are sleeping at my feet, even my sweet Reba is here for an extended stay with her Grandma and Grandpa.  It's a pretty good way to say goodbye to 2016 if you ask me.  We love when she comes to stay!  It's lucky for us her person loves to keep his mother in a state of worry travel so we can enjoy her company.  He's off gallivanting again...... far far away.  So far that it's already the new year there.  I just hate when he picks places to visit that entail loooooong plane rides over oceans.  I will be glad when this latest adventure of his is over and he's back home safe and sound but that won't be for several weeks so I'm just going to honker down and knit.  Maybe get the wheels going again.  They have been taking a Holiday nap.  Reba loves when I spin.....NOT!  LOL!  She's been busy trying to get Lilly Bean's attention.  We were thinking, how cute is that, she's trying to share her new toy with her......
but Lilly wasn't falling for it.  She always heads for higher ground.  LOL  She's totally bossy with the hooligans but she's intimidated by Reba's size.  It's all very entertaining for me and it keeps my mind off
the sad state of affairs in this country right now.  Between the critters and my knitting I'm hoping to keep just busy enough to get through the coming years with my nerves in check.
I've been paying a lot of attention to my scrappy blanket and it shows.  I'm having trouble fitting it into the photo shots now.  There's still a ways to go on it though so I hope the power grid stays in tack.  Seems as though the Russians have been hacking into that too.  Fasten your seat belts folks.  It's looking like 2017 might be a turbulent ride.

HAPPY  NEW YEAR  EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

I've found a new to me dish cloth pattern and consequently have spent days knitting one after another, after another, after another!  The pattern can be found here Ravelry 4-corner Dish Cloth  Check it out.  It's a really nice pattern and it's free.  YAY!

It's Christmas Eve and I'm still knitting them!  Yikes!   I need to pull myself away now to help with dinner.  I'm in charge of the table setting and salad making.  I think I can handle that.  :-)  MERRY  CHRISTMAS  EVERYONE!!!!!!!

Catching up...

I've been under the weather since just after Thanksgiving.  And I mean really under the weather!  I'm in the third week of battling a mean old bug that just doesn't want to give up.  I spent the first week to sick to knit.  Now that's sick!  LOL!  My spirits were lifted yesterday when the postman brought me another wonderful soap package from Araignee's Tangled Web who's having a tad bit of her own Holiday stress at the moment.
Her soap making talents are second to none and her packaging is simply adorable!  It's just a joy to recieve!  Thank you so much Deb and I hope things settle down and come around for you soon.  I'm so behind with my Holiday prep but there are a few signs of Christmas starting to apear around the house.
And I've picked up my knitting again!
I've managed to go from this....
to this....
and this nearly sent me back to the " to sick to knit " stage
but I stuck with it and I now have the "Emmeline" cardigan finished in time for Christmas.  Now all I have to do is finish decorating, start shopping and begin a marathon of baking!!!

Turkey Day Recap

Turkey Day was a total success......the day before not so much!  The drama started a week or so before when the dishwasher decided to stop working and as we all know that is simply not acceptable on the biggest dish washing day of the year.   So in a last ditch effort to remedy the situation a new dishwasher was ordered and to our amazement would be delivered the very afternoon before the big day.   The delivery people were here "Johnny on the Spot" and all set to hook it up.  Turkey day was saved......all was good.......until the water valve under the sink broke off in the guys hand and water began spraying all over the kitchen!  This set in motion mad dashes to the well to shut off the whole water supply to the house!  One of the installers injured his back in the effort and the other one stepped into a mound of fire ants that immediately began crawling up his leg and biting him.  They couldn't get out of here fast enough after that and I can't really blame them even though that left us with trying to get a plumber on the day before Thanksgiving because otherwise we would have no water for dish washing of any kind or anything else for that matter.   But wait.....it's gets better....just before it gets worse again.  We managed to get a plumber but he couldn't get here until midnight.. but hey....at least he was coming and we were thankful for that.  We would have water and he would hook up the new dishwasher.  YAY......right?!?  We were back in business.....NOT.....  it took him until 2:00 AM and $$$$ to figure out that the delivery people had brought us a faulty dishwasher, so the expensive late night emergency plumber left and we went to bed exhausted with a now extremely expensive nonworking dishwasher for the big day!  We still don't have a working dishwasher to this day but Turkey day was a success all the same.

Son-in-law was in charge of frying the turkey.....it's tradition.....he's an awesome cook!

My girls made the punch

and the gardener and I were so thankful to be surrounded with family.

Grand pup was soaking up tons of love and attention

while Levi and Sophie waited patiently for people food to drop in their direction.

And when Louie wasn't busy hogging the big chair,

he was hoping no one would notice

just how close he was to getting a piece of that sweet potato pie and ice cream!  It was a wonderful day filled with good food, love, laughter and plenty of helping hands with all those dishes!!!  :-)

Time to FROG!!!

I'm going to try and make a light hearted comparison  so bare with me here.
I've been working on this cardigan for a bit now and all was going along smoothly until I made the mistake of knitting on it during the election results.  As those results started going south so did my knitting!  It was one mistake after another, after another, after another but because I have now become a more experienced knitter , I knew exactly what to do.  FROG!!  IMMEDIATELY!  Do not proceed in a state of denial as though all is well thinking everything will turn out fine in the end because it WON'T!  You need to correct the mistakes and then and only then move on.   Many many years ago I wanted to learn to knit so in order to do that I had to study it, read up on it, talk to a lot of knowledgeable and experienced knitters so I could get it right and produce quality things I would be proud of.  Because I'm a knitter I tend to think in knit stitches but this approach works in most aspects of our daily lives.  It's really quite simple.  If you want a good out come you need to watch, learn, study, pay attention to those among us who have experience.  Study history, remember it and learn from those dark misstakes of this countries past so as not to repeat them.   It's troubling to hear people say they don't pay attention to politics and then think they can cast a responsible intelligent vote.  Or worse yet say they actually don't want experienced people who have spent their whole careers devoted to the good of our country.  People died for the right to vote in this country and along with that comes the responsibility to learn all you can about each candidate before you cast your vote and in this election it wasn't that difficult because they put it right out there for all to see.  There was a a choice between a candidate experienced, well qualified and prepared to lead all of us forward and a self proclaimed unqualified, raciest, bigoted misogynistic narcissist who's goal is to turn us backwards to those dark days in our history.  My knitting mind is screaming at me to FROG NOW and start over but the sad reality is that we can't.    Birds have just flown into the planes engine and we don't have a steady experienced qualified career pilot to land the plane!!!!

Day Trip

It's Fiber Festival time in the mountains!!  Two of my favorite things......Fiber and Mountains......YAY!!!!  Those mountains have been calling me back ever since I first laid eyes on them a year ago on the trip here to my new digs.  They took my breath away then and their mystical beauty keeps drawing me back.

I woke my Granddaughter up at the butt crack of dawn and we headed out before the sun was even up!  It was a beautiful drive once the sun did poke it's head out.

The leaves are starting to turn up there in High Country.  I'm definitely going to make this an annual excursion!  The Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair (SAFF) is the perfect size event in my opinion.....not to big and not to small....the parking is great, lots of interesting vendors, and demonstrations. Good food, can't forget the good food!  LOL  This particular vendor

really peaked our interest.  They had the most amazing realistic needle felted pieces.
They were life size!!

Just beautiful.....

Both Granddaughter and I, being the crafty fools that we are, were totally inspired.  We pretty much figured right then and there that we could do this too.  Or at least try...LOL.  Hence we both purchased these

lethal looking weapons to stab the heck out of our fingers create something similar of our own.  And of course I also came away with some more of the fluffy fiber goodness in my favorite rose gray color plus several other miscellaneous fiber related gadgets I was in need of.  It was the perfect fall get-a-way with one of my most favorite people in the whole world!

Becoming Emmeline

I'm on a real cardigan roll here lately!  I've started yet another one and just in time because it's starting to cool off a bit here.  The low for tonight is 39......keep in mind this would be a heat wave where I use to live.....but here it's considered chilly.  I'm still trying to get use to that.  LOL.  It's perfect sweater weather to me but others here have put on their quilted down jackets.....so funny.  So this is the new cardi on my needles at the moment....

It's Emmeline purchased on Ravelry.  I'm using that pretty burgundy merino I spun a while ago.

Along with some of that rose gray alpaca and a wee bit of a tan alpaca I've had stashed.  There's just the right amount of color work in the pattern.....I can't handle to much.....so this is just right and I love the ruffle at the bottom.

I'm hoping to get it done by Christmas.

Sharing

Reba is fitting right in here as usual.  We have her for a bit longer this time so there was some concern that she would get home sick and miss the big city life but that doesn't seem to be the case and we are all glad of that.  Our goal is to make a country bumkin out of her.  LOL!

That means hanging out sharing that favorite sun spot with Louie for long afternoon naps.

Taking turns with that favorite bone while Levi patiently stares her down

then politely letting

him have his turn.  She is the ultimate house guest and we are all so enjoying having her here.  Hopefully my litle hooligans will pick up some of her good manners, not the other way around.

A Done Deal

I've finished my cardigan!

I love how it turned out but it was kind of a chalenge to knit once I got to the sleeves because you had the whole sweater dangling off the needles as you knit.

They were done in the round on circular needles which didn't help matters any.  I just found it to be awkward but in the end it was nice to have it all finished in one piece.  There were no seams to match up and sew so that was nice.  It fits nice and the yarn is really soft next to my skin.  Love it.  Just need to find some nice buttons now.  I set out to do just that last Sat. but ran into a bit of situation in the intersection at the JoAnn Fabrics store here.  I  was waiting patiently in the left turn lane for the light to turn when suddenly there was a loud (and I do mean LOUD) crash and cars and car parts began flying at me!!

Fenders and glass flew over the top of my car....

and this white car landed about an inch from me!  That's me in the red car.  A car came sailing through the red light at about 50 miles an hour and slammed into a car in the intersection sending that car sailing into this white car and it literally missed me by a hair.   I just now stopped shaking!  Several people were hurt including a little boy and his mother.  It was horrible.  Needless to say I didn't get any buttons.

My Soaps are Here!!!

They arrived this morning!!!!!

A great big Thank You to http://araigneestangledweb.blogspot.com/ !  This is the very first blog I started reading way back when.  I enjoy  reading her blog so much that I was inspired to start one of my own.  She's one very talented lady with so many crafting accomplishments and endless energy.  I'm amazed at her soap making skills.  This stuff is to die for!  It all smells divine and is so beautifully packaged.

My knees and elbows cry out for these

lotion bars and my feet can't wait to try her new bath fizzies.  I bought a special little foot tub just for the occasion.

Waiting......

Tomorrow Reba is coming to stay with me and my hooligans for a spell

while her Daddy is off galavanting.  The Gardener and I love when she comes to stay with us!  She's such a sweet heart.  So well behaved.  Unlike my little group of hooligans.  I haven't told Lilly Bean yet

that she'll soon have another pair of eyes catching her in the act of her shenanigans.

Reba's quite fascinated with Lilly Bean.

There'll be a lot of observing from various angles.

She likes to keep her in her sights at all times

and quite often enlists the help of the rest of the gang

making it nearly impossible for her to pull off her normal mischief.  So I think I will wait till the last minute to inform Lilly Bean   :-)  It's all very entertaining for the Gardener and I !!!
