Poncho Progress

Am I the only one that gets totally bored watching the Oscars?  And for some odd reason every year I seem to forget that it was painfully boring the year before and I turn it on again.  The upside to this is that I made some serious progress on my poncho during the long drawn out parade of acceptance speeches.

I did however enjoy Chris Rock and he made the night with the Girl Scout cookie sale for his daughters during one of the breaks .  That was awesome!!

And just in case anyone missed it last's on every single talk show this morning so my goal is to knit the last 2 & 3/4 inches of stocking knit before

it's back to those pesky charts for the bottom trim.  Those have to take place late at night when the Hooligans are fast asleep!

Fiber Filled Weekends

I was so excited to have finished plying 1,242 yards of that pretty wine colored Merino this past weekend......

only to discover that it won't be enough to knit my cardigan sweater pattern.  Kind of a bummer!!!  Oh Well!   Will have to scout around for something else for it to become.  In the meantime....

I've thrown myself into this really nice rose gray alpaca!!!
I love how soft and squishy it is and the color is really different in a pleasant sort of way.  Kind of a natural taupe shade.

It's all washed and dried and being hand carded as we speak.

I''m hoping to be knee deep in these.....

by next weekend!!!

Alpaca Fix

Can we say " Road Trip" !?!  Every now and again I just have to find myself some alpaca to get up close and personal with because they are without a doubt  the softest, sweetest, fluffiest and cutest animals on the planet as far as I'm concerned.   So I headed out last weekend in search of some and wound up spending some quality time with this guy.......

is this not a face to die for?!!  OMG!  With bangs like these who needs sun glasses!!  If I could have fit him in my car I would have!  He was clinging pretty close to his handler waiting nervously to enter the show ring.

I don't think he was all that enthused with the whole situation either.  Sooooo cute.  It's the first Suri Alpaca I have ever been up close and personal with and I loved him!

I had quite a nice conversation with these guys too.

And OMG.........get a load of this handsome dude!!  You can clearly see he wants to come home with me can't you?!   It was all fun and games for me.....

but things were pretty serious downstairs in the show ring.  Brought back memories of my dog showing days.  It was a wonderful day and although I wasn't able to take any of those cutie pies home with me .....

I did manage to bring a few bags of their beautiful fleeces with me.  This should keep me going for a while.

Ponchos are Back

Have you noticed?  Ponchos are making a come back.  You see them in all the clothing stores now and I'm so glad.  I  have always loved them.  They're so comfy and the perfect cover up when you just need a lite wrap, which is most of the winter and fall here.  It doesn't really get to terribly cold here all that often.  I just think they look so nice with jeans and a pair of high boots.  This one in particular has caught my eye
and I have just the perfect yarn for the job.

I had originally thought of using this alpaca I had spun earlier this year for a cardigan pattern I want to make but I think it will work much better on this poncho.

I've managed to get a pretty good start on it in the last couple of days.  I struggled a bit with all the seed stitch as I'm not a big fan of switching back and forth between knit and purl but I do like the texture and look of it so with my eye on the end result I pushed through the first bout of it.  Then there was a fair amount of chart work where I had to actually pay close attention to stitch count and yarn overs and such.  Most of that had to take place late at night while the gardener and the little hooligans were all fast asleep.  Distractions and knitting charts just don't go together well, if you know what I mean.

I'm into the long stretch of mindless stocking knit now while staring at the fire with my feet up.

A Gathering!!!!!!

Every evening at five thirty sharp there's a gathering here.  A really, really BIG gathering!!  Just outside of the spinning room.  You hear them first....... birds...... millions of the distance.  Coming closer and closer!  It gets loud, vert, very loud!!!!!  And Louie being Louie heads for the windows with that high pitched Yorky voice of his ......

and in a flash is joined by Levi who's trying his best to prove Poms can  out bark Yorkies anyday.....

and between the birds and the dogs you can't hear your self think.  They start gathering in the trees.....all the trees.

And we have a lot of trees.

They wait up there in the trees chattering amongst themselves loudly until the gardener gets BG all tucked into his stall for the night and then it gets really crazy.  They fly in these wild formations.....swirling back and forth....round and round....

The air is full of them.......the ground is full of them.....

It's like something straight out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie!!   YIKES!!  :-o  I'm not sure what's crazier........the fact that there are so many of them or that they come at the very same time every evening!!!!!!
